Miss America 2010

We really missed our wonderful customers this weekend. Blake and I opened the store on Saturday but the roads were sparse and people were clearly staying home. Even B&N and Chico's had closed signs posted on their doors. So, we closed at 2:00 p.m. and went home to prepare to watch Miss America "Behind The Curtain" and Miss America.

I must admit that I felt a bit nervous all day for Arkansas's very own Sarah Slocum. I couldn't imagine the way she must've been feeling in those last moments leading up to the night. All of her hard work had led up to this very moment. The couple of shots that we saw of her on Miss America's "Behind The Curtain" were amazing.

We baked brownies and had pizza before the big show. Given the cold weather we opted to wear our lounge clothes and cuddle up in the living room for the long haul.

The show started at 7:00 pm and right away we were made aware of the top 15 girls. Sarah was the second girl announced. Our living room was filled with shrills and screams for Sarah. We were so excited!!! The first 3 girls to be announced were 'People's Choice' winners. Each contestant was given a poll to vote for her favorite 4 girls with the only rule being that she couldn't choose herself. Based on the votes, 15 girls were given a 15 second video on TLC to feature the contestant's choices and she had the opportunity to ask America for her vote. Based on America's votes 3 girls were chosen. America chose Sarah Slocum! Her video was adorable and it was a great to see Sarah in Evening Gown and her Swim Suit as well. Receiving this 'People's Choice' award says a lot about Miss Arkansas because her peers choose her.

The next portion of the competition was Swim Suit and they announced the next 12 winners. Sarah's name didn't get called in the top 12. She represented our state well. She had an amazing stage presence and you could see her beauty radiating... We were sad but excited that she did so well. She made Miss America's top 15 out of 53 states. Amazing!!!

I must say that watching the rest of the show didn't hold the same spark for us. But, we continued to watch it minus the focus that we once had. The top five girls were Miss Louisiana, Katherine Putnam; Miss Tennessee, Stefanie Wittler; Miss California, Kristy Cavinder as 1st Runner Up; and Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron our 2010 Miss America. Let me just say this girl is gorgeous and will be a great Miss America. I'm happy for her. I can't imagi
ne to wake up today and think "I'm Miss America". Congratulations to her and her adorable parents... If you didn't see them on t.v. they were in tears and so happy. You could see the love and support they had for their daughter, Miss America.

Sherri Hill and Tony Bowls had some amazing dresses on the stage. I wish we could've seen all of the gowns since this is of course my very part of any event. I'm thinking that we'll attend next year since Vegas really is a hop, skip, and a flight away. A little sunshine would've been nice!!

Sarah, we're ready for your to come home and be our Miss Arkansas. Congratulations! You made Arkansas proud!!!
